ABOUT
SAVE OUR BLUFF SAN DIEGO

Since 2017, Solana Beach and Del Mar citizens and neighbors have come together to fight rezoning the Del Mar North Bluff. This 16-acre bluff is one of a kind and it is vital that we protect it from overdevelopment.

MISSION & HISTORY.

Save Our Bluff (SOB) SD is a grassroots organization that was successful (WOOHOO!) in February 2020 at putting a stop to the high density Del Mar Resort plan that developer Zephyr proposed under Measure G in Del Mar, CA.

At the end of the day, the people of Del Mar spoke, voting "NO" to rezoning the bluff for the massive hotel development.

Although this was a major win for the underdog (aka every local small town across America), our beautiful North Bluff remains threatened by overzealous and reckless developers only looking for a quick buck.

Latest whispers indicate one of the primary landowners is drafting plans to submit to the City of Del Mar proposing an apartment building approx. 259 units in size with 85 of the units deemed "affordable housing".

Projects with a minimum of 20% dedicated to affordable housing are given breaks by the CA state government.

Del Mar is one of eight cities in San Diego under pressure to build out additional affordable housing, but at what cost to pre-existing residents' quality of life, property values, and more?!?

What does this mean for the local communities and anyone who enjoys visiting this spectacular North Bluff above Del Mar Dog Beach? This means a project could be as dense as a builder wants and require ZERO LOCAL SAY IN WHAT IS BUILT just as long as at least 20% of the total project is meeting CA's mandated affordable housing for a given locality.

More to come on this topic...

PARTNERING WITH YOU.

PARKS & RECREATION.

When SOB campaigned against the resort development back in 2017-2020, a formal request was made to the Del Mar City Council to approve a Del Mar Bluff Park Feasibility Study to explore the option of creating a public Park for the 16.5 acres adjacent to the Scripps 4+ acre North Bluff Preserve.

The goal was to compare and contrast the Park Alternative to the dense commercial development proposed for the Del Mar Resort. It was originally requested that the Park be included as a viable alternative in the Environmental Impact Report for the Resort.

SOB believes the North Bluff land needs to be protected once and for all! We aim to fundraise and work with the local Solana Beach and Del Mar communities to purchase the bluff real estate.

Our objective is to aid Solana Beach and Del Mar in establishing a joint Coastal Bluff Conservation.

Any commercialized project proposed rejects the fundamental values of Solana Beach and Del Mar, which pride themselves on their intimate and quaint beach communities that they've worked so hard to establish. Inevitably any major development will turn our coast into a commercialized nightmare, compromising the integrity of our unique cities.

Help us achieve SOB's mission to Save Our Bluff and create a community park!
